Technology Lending

What do we lend? Items include laptops, tablets, ereaders, and audiovisual equipment (including cameras). See the equipment list and specifications.
See which items are currently available (only on campus and through vLab).

Who can use the program?  Technology is available for loan to currently enrolled students.  Faculty and staff who are interested in borrowing equipment should look into the Center for Teaching and Learning’s equipment rental program (http://www.ctl.uga.edu/equipment).

How does it work? Students present their UGA ID at the 3 East desk and fill out a form.  If equipment has multiple components, the EITS consultant will go over an inventory checklist with you.  Please feel free to ask any questions about the equipment or lending process at this time.

Lending Desk Hours:

Monday - Thursday: 8am - 12 midnight (items due by 11pm).
Friday: 8am - 7pm (items due by 6pm)
Saturday:10am - 7pm (items due by 6pm)
Sunday: 11am - 12 midnight (items due by 11pm)

DO NOT LEAVE equipment at an unattended desk.  All equipment MUST be returned to an employee.  Leaving items unattended at the lending desk will result in a minimum fee of $50.00.

Items fall into one of four categories:

Group A: Six hour loans
Items are due back six hours after initial check out, OR an hour before the lending desk closes. Items in Group A can be borrowed until one hour before the lending desk closes.

After a 15 minute grace period, late fees are $10/hr up to $150.  Keeping an item overnight will incur a flat $20 fee on top of hourly fees.  Patrons will not be charged the hourly fee for times when the lending desk is closed.  After two days, the device will be considered lost and the patron will be liable for a full replacement fee.

Six hour loans include: Laptops (Mac and PC), iPads, Charging Kits.

Group B: 3 day loans, large items
Items are due back on the third day after rental, an hour before lending desk closes.

Items returned between 11:15 - midnight Sun - Thurs or 6:15 - 7pm Fri - Sat will incur a charge of $10. Late charges are $50/day, up to $150. After two days, the device will be considered lost and the patron will be liable for a full replacement fee.

Group B items include: Digital cameras, camcorders, DSLR lenses, audio recorders, microphones, medium and large tripods.

Group C: 3 day loans, small items
Items are due back on the third day after rental, an hour before lending desk closes.

Items returned between 11:15 - midnight Sun - Thurs or 6:15 - 7pm Fri - Sat will incur a charge of $10. Late charges are $25/day, up to $75. After two days, the device will be considered lost and the patron will be liable for a full replacement fee.

Group C items include: small tripods, lens accessories, smartphone lenses.

Group D: 14 day loans
Items are due back the 14th day after rental, an hour before lending desk closes.

Items returned between 11:15 - midnight Sun - Thurs or 6:15 - 7pm Fri - Sat will incur a charge of $10. Late charges are $50/day up to $150.  After two days, the device will be considered lost and the patron will be liable for a full replacement fee.

Group D items include e-readers: Kindles and Sony.

Renewals: Items may only be renewed if an identical item is available in stock at the time of return.  Items must be brought to the 3 East lending desk for renewals since renewals are not guaranteed.

Waiting list/reservations: There are no waiting lists or reservations for items.  Items are loaned on a first come/first serve basis.  If using equipment for school projects, please plan generously since items may be in high demand.  Currently available items are viewable here. (List only available on campus or through vlab.uga.edu) If the status is "returned," the item is available.

Late fees: Please return items in a timely manner to avoid late fees.  Fees are cumulative per item, per day.  If there are extenuating circumstances preventing timely return, please contact the 3 East desk (706-542-4673) or email Germaine Cahoon (gcahoon@uga.edu).  Be prepared to pay late fees in full.

Fees may be paid with CASH or CHECK 8am-4pm Monday - Friday in the MLC Administrative Offices (373).  To guarantee an appointment, please email gcahoon@uga.edu with availability and we will work to accommodate you.

Damaged or incomplete equipment: If you discover that equipment has damage or is missing components, please report this to 3 East desk (706-542-4673) or to Germaine Cahoon (gcahoon@uga.edu) ASAP.  We may be able to swap your item for another with better functionality.  If an item is damaged while in your care, there may be associated fees.  Communicating with us directly about damaged equipment is advised.

Fair use of the program: Patrons agree that they will not use the technology lending service in such a way that would prevent other students from having equitable access to the equipment.  Any student determined to be abusing the service or mistreating the equipment may have their borrowing rights terminated.

Courtesy reminders: Our staff will attempt to contact you on the day before your items are due (Group D/e-readers), the day your items are due (Group B and C items), or when your item has become overdue (all groups).  These reminders are a courtesy and failure to receive messages are not cause to waive late fees.

Holidays/hours exceptions: There are times when the building will be closed or service desks will be operating with reduced hours.  Every effort will be made to inform patrons of exceptional due days and times.  Please see mlc.uga.edu/hours to confirm any exceptional hours.

Questions or comments about the program should be directed to the MLC Service Desk Coordinator, Germaine Cahoon: gcahoon@uga.edu / 706-542-7090.
